A multitude of topics will be covered in presentations by university researchers and extension specialists from Michigan State University and many other universities and research stations across the United States and Canada. There will also be presentations by growers, farm marketers and others involved with fruit and vegetable production and marketing.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be 22 sessions covering major fruit and vegetable commodities. In addition, morning and afternoon sessions for farm marketers are planned for these days, as well as sessions on alternative energy sources, cider production, pollination, and plasticulture.

The education program planned for Thursday will offer a number of special sessions and workshops. The schedule includes full-day programs for organic growers and for managers and others interested in farmers markets. There will also be a full-day IPM workshop on cucurbit crops covering nutrient requirements and the control of insects, diseases and weeds. Special sessions on Thursday morning will address water use issues, farm labor, and hard cider production and marketing. The Thursday morning schedule also includes four workshops for farm marketers that will cover bakery products, medicinal herb production, school tours, and customer service.

Session Summaries

Speakers in each education session have been asked to submit a brief summary of their presentation. Copies of the presentation summaries will be compiled by session and distributed during each session. The summaries will also be posted on the EXPO’s website (click here) after the EXPO.

Educational Posters

Educational posters will be available for viewing in the Grand Gallery of DeVos Place outside the meeting rooms. Poster presenters will be available at various times to discuss the information provided on their poster.

Education Credits for Pesticide Applicators and Certified Crop Advisors

Many of the education sessions will offer a re-certification point for Private and Certified Pesticide Applicators and continuing education units for Certified Crop Advisors. Instructions and necessary MDA or MCCAP forms will be issued at each eligible session. The conference program you receive at the EXPO will indicate the specific sessions in which education credits will be available.
