Steve Ford, son of former President Gerald Ford, will be the
featured speaker for this year’s banquet program. Steve was suddenly
thrust into the role of “fi rst son” when his father was sworn in
as President on August 9, 1974, following the resignation of Richard
Nixon. Steve’s unique perspective on life as the President’s
son will encompass a broad range of fascinating incites, including
President Ford’s pardon of Richard Nixon to help put an end to
the infamous Watergate affair, being 18 years old and having ten
Secret Service agents as constant companions, the two assassination
attempts on his father, and his mother’s bouts with alcoholism
and breast cancer. For anyone who remembers this time in our
country’s history, especially those who knew Gerald Ford, Steve’s
presentation will be both entertaining and enlightening.
Today, Steve Ford is an accomplished actor and speaker. He
will comment on some of the things that have been basic to his
success, such as a strong family unit, living life with values and
character, setting and juggling priorities, and making the right
choices. He may also share some comments about the time he
spent on the professional rodeo circuit as a team roper. He owns
a ranch in California and still ropes today in his spare time.
The banquet program also includes recognition of people
who have made outstanding contributions to Michigan’s fruit
and vegetable industries. In addition, industry scholarship
recipients will be recognized and the winner of this year’s cider
contest will be announced.
